Bernard Langer was one of the finest distance putters on the PGA tour. According to Langer, the critical factor in determining distance in your putt is the length of your stroke. Here are three of Langer's best tips for executing the perfect stroke length for distance putting.* Tip #1: Use practice strokes Unfortunately, there is no equation for determining the length of your stroke. You must obtain it intuitively as you survey the putt’s slope and line. Your subconscious mind must transmit a sense of feel to your hands and arms, telling them how long a stoke is necessary. Your mind will transfer this information more easily if you stand near the ball and make a couple of practice strokes while looking down the line toward the hole. Tip # 2: Use visualization to imagine the stroke Relax and imagine how far you must swing the putter back and through. You’ll be surprised at how accurately your body obeys the command given by your brain. Tip #3: Quickly check your mechanics While you don't want to burden your mind by focusing too heavily on mechanics, here are some fundamentals you'll want to ingrain so they are automatic:
